There have been many incarnations in film about Oscar Wilde that go as far back as Robert Morely playing the doomed homosexual wit and playwright to the 2018 production of Ruppert Everett which was not totally satisfying.

"Wilde" starring Stephen Fry, himself a great wit, is an elegant film that captures an indelible portrait of Victorian England. Wilde's life was bogged down by many burdens, the eventual realization of his homosexuality and love for Lord Alfred Douglas. But for me, the feature doesn't come across as a true bio-pic as it tends to concentrate on a number of incidents in particular. Yet, it does work splendidly on screen especially with Fry giving such an honest, believable portrait of the king of the epigram. It doesn't hurt to have talents like Jude law and Orlando Bloom, so young when the film was made. One could see the talent in both men, especially in Jude Law. But in the end, it is Stephen Fry, himself a homosexual, who creates this enormous portrait and eventual pathos for one of the very great literary giants of the late 19th Century. It's all very sad Wilde did not go into exile on his own volition and escape the demeaning, degrading public humiliation and prison that cut short his life. I consider him a genius. Do see this "Wilde". It is one of the best.

Oh my god, have you seen Jude Law there? He is so awesome! Too bad Orlando Bloom wasn't taking a big role there... but if he was successful, than we could've not be able to see him on LOTR! Anyways, he is cool!

I'm currently watching this film, and even though some scenes are a bit lacking, it's still quite good. I mainly wanted to see it because it features Orlando Bloom!

I watched this movie on TV a while back when views were different. I believe it would be appreciated more if shown nowadays. Even though the film is just 5 years old, people would accept it for what it's truly worth. The actors' performances are on point, but the film's message is hard to swallow. That said, Oscar Wilde's chaotic life doesn't diminish his status as a poet and playwright who is still acknowledged today.

This is a fantastic film. While not as well-known as Armageddon, it's definitely worth watching. The tale of this unique author captivates everyone. Stephen Fry delivers a strong performance in the lead role. I highly recommend it, particularly if you're familiar with Oscar Wilde. Francis B.
