    The Village

    Reviewed by paraffilm@

At first glance, most viewers (myself included) only see the surface of a movie, and one of the film's central characters is blind. This isn't a scary movie, but rather a film about fear itself... something that will intrigue those willing to explore deeper. Fear is an emotion triggered by contact with the unknown. As humans, we need to incorporate this feeling into our life experience, coming to terms with it by framing it within a shared understanding, thereby giving it meaning. In other words, we must accept anomalies that lie beyond our control, emanating from outside the boundaries of our world, our vast global village. Shyamalan never does things halfway and fully realized he wasn't telling a simple horror story... That's how he misled us. A film worth watching multiple times.
