    The Ravenous

    Reviewed by phee@

A suspenseful zombie movie, but be warned, this film is much more than that. It's a gut-wrenching film that raises profound questions. It hits you right where it hurts. At the same time, it's incredibly beautiful aesthetically. The acting is top-notch. I was on the edge of my seat for almost the entire movie. Usually, I avoid films with potentially gory images, but in this case, even though there's plenty of suspense, the visuals aren't too disturbing for the more sensitive viewers. The emotional impact comes more from the atmosphere and the subject matter. That's the strength of director Robert Aubin. If it weren't for him, I probably wouldn't have seen it, as zombie movies aren't typically my thing. But his films are excellent, and I didn't regret watching this one. It was shocking in multiple ways, and I even cried, which gives you an idea of the range of emotions it evokes. Despite the harshness, there's also poetry and beauty in this film. It's definitely worth seeing. It's no surprise that it won the award for Best Canadian Feature at the Toronto Film Festival!
