This film depicts the harsh reality of internal resistance against the Nazi regime in Germany during World War II. It tells the story of a courageous young woman who stood up to the regime in the name of common sense, individual freedom, and anti-racism, even at the cost of her own life. The film features excellent documentation, authentic period sets and costumes. I greatly appreciated this story, which is based on true events.

This German film with English subtitles is an intelligent, informative, and touching movie based on the true story of brave young people who risked everything for their conscience against Nazi tyranny. It's incredibly important to me as it introduced me to the White Rose resistance network. The film shows that a big budget isn't necessary for a great movie, just an important and interesting story. Sophie Scholl's Gestapo interrogation, especially the captivating confrontation between Sophie (Julia Jenisch) and Robert Mohr (Gerald Held), features very accurate acting. While not perfect, the film remains a must-see in my opinion. It's now available for free on YouTube. As Edmund Burke said, "The only thing necessary for the triumph of evil is for good men to do nothing."

HEIL GERMANY for its many, great films of late including 2 Oscar Nominated films for Foreign Language.

SOPHIE SCHOLL moved me to such an extent to see such young, brave people in resistance to the hate of Hitler and his Third Reich. The portrayals in the film are grand with utterly riveting scenes as the plot and battle escalate. Sophie was REMARKABLE.

A true story of courage at its very best. What incredible young persons. I must admit ashamedly that I knew almost nothing of THE WHITE ROSE, so the whole experience of this movie hit me like a ton of bricks yet with so much admiration for persons who made such deep sacrifices for freedom.

This is an excellent film with great actors. Julia Jentsch delivers a fantastic performance as Sophie, but we can't forget Gerald Alexander Held's brilliant portrayal of Robert Mohr. The movie is very well made and offers new insights into the lives of German citizens during World War II.

The film highlights the absurdity of war, a characteristic common to all conflicts. Julia Jensch's performance is remarkably understated, elevating her character to larger-than-life status. The film eschews flashy visuals, grandiose sets, and awe-inspiring effects. Its success stems from the actors' credible portrayals of their respective roles. It's one of the excellent German films from recent years that offers an insider's perspective on Germany, rather than the typical American viewpoint.

This film is truly excellent, despite its profoundly sad subject matter. It's yet another testament to the fact that great films can be made even with limited budgets. However, I did find two minor inaccuracies in the film based on my web research: 1) Sophie Scholl was Catholic, not Protestant. 2) A "detail" not depicted in the film is that her leg was broken by the Gestapo during her interrogation.

Sophie's choice. Risking her life for her beliefs shows the courage of her convictions. In this case, time has proven her right. She recognized Hitler's madness and wanted to expose it by spreading her awakened state to as many people as possible. Today she would be 85 years old, which is not that far from us in time, but so distant in terms of restrictions on speech. Now we can express our opinions without risking our lives. We can oppose the Iraq war or Canada's involvement in Afghanistan. We can also be against suicide bombers who kill in the name of blood ties. We can be against all senseless wars where the population pays with their lives to satisfy the convictions of world leaders, as long as it continues to enrich the arms industry. This film is very moving, especially the interrogation between Inspector Robert Mohr and Sophie Scholl, which takes the form of an ideological exchange. The dialogue is interesting and intelligent. The film depicts a dark period of recent history when madness ruled through its law of silence - the silence of death. I'm speaking of Sophie, but also of her brother and comrade. Their story exemplifies unwavering self-belief. As this is a true story, to celebrate the triumph of truth and in their memory, if possible, I would place a large bouquet of white roses on each of their graves.

Don't be put off by the fact that the film is in German with French subtitles. The original German language actually makes the film more dramatic. This is an essential film that reminds us of the insanity of mankind.

I absolutely loved it. The film portrays an interesting historical event with simplicity and intensity. It helps bridge the gap with the German people, who are often subject to prejudice. I appreciate how they showed photos of the real "Sophie" during the credits (or at least I assume it's her). The confrontation between Sophie and the judge is incredibly powerful; the judge is so aggravating that he made me jump out of my seat. The acting is brief but outstanding. This film is worth watching for many reasons, but especially to witness the story of individuals who stood firm in their values and convictions until the very end.

My husband and I don't mind the fact that we have to drive 35k to the AMC to watch a good movie; apparently in the West Island the Cinemas' [...] their choice of movies are horrible! This is an excellent movie, well performed, simple and straight, easy to understand and of course, shows you the other side of the germans during WW2.

Hello, I absolutely loved this movie and it's my favorite of the year. Even without any special effects, it's incredibly engaging. The human aspect is so moving - I was choked up the entire time. Knowing it's based on a true story made it even more impactful for me. I'm a revolutionary at heart and believe in freedom for all, which is the core message of the film. It's a must-watch.

This historical document is well-acted with good direction, making it very believable. At times, you forget they are acting. What struck me the most was that such a terribly fascist and criminal dictatorship didn't use torture methods. The girl wasn't even touched or subjected to psychological torture. Has the world really changed so much in sixty years? These days, torture and humiliation are commonly used, even by so-called 'democratic' powers! All in all, it's an excellent film with a remarkable performance by the lead actress.

This movie made me tremble. I can't remember when I last saw a movie that went under my skin like this one. The director used the original interrogation protocoles for the script and the whole movie is very authentic. It doesn't make use of cheap emotional effects - you feel that what you get is probably very close to the plain truth and that's just enough to go give you a feeling of being slowly strangled. We got so used to the Hollywood cliche of Nazi Germany that I think we all started thinking that it could never happen to us - thus, we forget how fragile values like democracy, liberty and civil rights are and that a civilized country can turn into a terroristic and inhuman regime anytime and anywhere. This movie should be a warning to us all.

    happilyeverafter@  19.5.2006 age: 26-35 11 reviews

Great film! The dialogue between Sophie and her interrogator is absolutely captivating - so genuine and authentic. But what an injustice!!! These three young people are judged by these lawmen, but it's the judges themselves who deserve to be judged, for they are the real "monsters." I'm not sure if the film's goal was also to make us appreciate this rough-around-the-edges group of people more, but for me, it didn't change my perception. I don't find German to be a beautiful language, and I'm not particularly fond of such an authoritarian people. Nonetheless, it's a must-see film for a glimpse into history. It also reminds us that even if we're in the right, if we're not in power, things can't change course. When you're the one in charge, you can do anything.

Riding home, on bus 24, I couldn't think of anything else than Sophie and her young compatriots, all executed by the NSDAP dictatorship, while defending conscience, truth and personal freedom. Sophie and her brother sacrificed themselves to give the German resistance, die "Weisse Rose", a face, a name. May we not forget them, their final sacrifice, their love of freedom for us all...

An incredibly intense and emotional film that's very well made, but also extremely sad. After seeing this movie, I was speechless for a whole hour. I wouldn't recommend it for the overly sensitive, as it's truly heartbreaking. It's also not for those who dislike slow-paced films. However, I thought it was excellent and don't regret watching it at all. The lead actress is absolutely remarkable.

Very very good, heartrenching film based on a true cruel story. The acting and directing is nothing less than superb. That story is an inspiration. We should be thankful for people such as Sophie Scholl and others who were involved with the White Rose and dared to do what is right, not what is popular, even at great personal risk. THe film is a must see...

In a way, this film is comforting as it showcases the brave deeds carried out by young Germans under extremely challenging circumstances. It demonstrates that even under the Nazi totalitarian regime during World War II, there were those who flatly rejected the indoctrination that seemed to be their fate. This movie is a must-watch for anyone passionate about history.

This excellent film sheds light on aspects of Nazi Germany that are often overlooked. Traditionally, movies have portrayed Nazis as bloodthirsty beasts. While it would be wrong to deny their cruelty, at least beasts are alive. "Sophie Scholl: The Final Days" shows that the Third Reich was built around a soulless bureaucracy. Everyone is just a hyper-specialized cog in a system heading straight for total destruction, with no one taking responsibility. This film is a MUST-SEE to ensure that our society, which sometimes resembles the one depicted, doesn't repeat the mistakes of the past.

Altough a good movie, I think this theme has been overexloited. Germans need movies such as this one to make them understand how incredibly stupid they were during WW2. We need to see movies with strong themes such as this one, I agree, but for a North American viewer, I think they are many other tragedies that happened in history that we are not focusing on nearly enough.

An interesting movie that doesn't offer much new, with some clichés, but generally well-filmed. As expected for a drama, the pacing is slow. There aren't any particularly drawn-out parts, but unfortunately, the subtitles are occasionally unreadable. Luckily, the plot isn't too complicated.

This film sheds light on a lesser-known aspect of history - the resistance among young Germans. The soundtrack is also top-notch. However, when translating a movie, one should watch it first to realize that white text on a white background is illegible. This is a significant oversight, as much of the translation was nearly impossible to read. Thankfully, one can still deduce what's happening in the story.

A heartfelt film - I love learning and this one delivers. The director bravely depicts the divided German populace during WWII. While the resistance was likely small, the White Rose group's efforts to condemn the Nazi party are potently portrayed. Like Schindler, they weren't alone in trying to help victims of this bleak era. Thank you for showcasing important films like this.

I just got back from the screening and I have to say, I'm blown away. This is a fantastic film with a remarkably insightful message that really grabs you. If you enjoyed movies like "Goodbye Lenin" and "Downfall" (which share some of the same actors), you'll definitely want to check this one out. Some might criticize it for lacking action, but the strength of its message more than makes up for that. The soundtrack is also excellent! One small issue: there are quite a few scenes where the lighting is so bright at the bottom that it completely obscures the subtitles. And since my German is far from fluent...

Despite the appearance of the overhead microphone (twice) this was a well-made film focusing on the moral responsibility of the individual. Julia Jentsch's portrayal of Sophie is particularly riveting as she moved from denial to courageous acknowledgment. Gerald Held's portrayal of the detective showed the character's discomfort in his moral position. The battle of wits between Sophie and Detective Mohr was riveting.
