I absolutely hated this film. The music was irritating, and I felt both manipulated and snubbed by the director who seems to think he has all the answers when it comes to love. The connection between the two storylines is nonsensical. It's affected, pretentious, and lost in its own arrogance. The editing is unnecessarily stylized and chaotic, like some sort of hyperactive music video. "Crazy" was great cinema, and "Victoria" was a good effort. But this? This is a case of a filmmaker who thinks he's God and ends up falling flat on his face. The director's ego takes up so much space that it detracts from the story and the performances. Vanessa Paradis is good, but her storyline is pointless. Parent is handsome and surprisingly talented. But really, they're just being manipulated by a puppeteer, set to a soundtrack of mushy, painful music that's nothing more than an excuse to use some well-known tunes. The visuals are stunning, but that's not enough to save the rest of the film.
